Camping in the Heart of the High Coast – World Heritage Site
Bring your tent to the High Coast and experience the wonderful adventures and excursions of the World Heritage site. FriluftsByn’s tentsites are the most popular in the High Coast thanks to their proximity to all the adventures, ample communal spaces, and cozy atmosphere
Here, both groups of friends and families gather to create a cozy base in the High Coast.
FriluftsByn’s tentsite is located right by the sunny southern side of Skuleberget, next to Lake Gällsta, inviting you to refreshing morning and evening swims. Knowing that preferences vary, we have created different tent zones so you can choose a campsite that suits you perfectly. Welcome to the most popular tentsite in the High Coast.

With FriluftsByn as your base, you not only live amidst the best experiences of the High Coast, but there’s also plenty of space for relaxation.

SERVICE BUILDINGS
There are two service buildings on the site. Our larger, newly renovated service building with 12 showers and four toilets is located right next to the camping pitches. We do our utmost to keep it clean and tidy both in the morning, during the day, and in the evening, but we are really glad that outdoor enthusiasts like you take responsibility to clean up after yourselves. It makes it more enjoyable for everyone.

There is plenty of space for washing dishes.
You need to bring your own dish brush and soap.

We like it to be nice clean – that’s why we clean often. But you also clean up after using the kitchen, right?

We have recently renovated the service buildings. Make sure to throw the paper in the trash bin and take good care of the place.

To accommodate even those who are not staying with us (hikers, etc.), we have coin-operated showers. You will need 10 SEK coins to use the showers, and we can provide change at the visitor center and restaurant.
Things to remember about the service buildings:
– Bring your own dish brush and dishwashing detergent.
– You need 10 SEK coins for the shower. (The reason is that we allow hikers, climbers, paddlers, and day-trippers to use our facilities.)
– Clean up after yourself when using shared areas such as sinks, dishwashing areas, and kitchen.
– Make sure to aim for the trash bin when throwing away paper or trash.
SOCIAL AREAS
There are several barbecue spots on the site, and both the courtyard and Friluftsfiket have covered outdoor areas. On Wednesdays and Saturdays during the high season, we organize “Burgers & Beer” events in the courtyard, which means that you cannot use the barbecue spots there during those times. If you feel like hanging out indoors, the Common Room next to the courtyard is open 24/7.

There are tables and seating areas scattered throughout the area. Feel free to sit down, and when you’re done, please remove your belongings – no reserving spots for yourself.

If someone needs a place to sit or seems sociable, please feel free to share your space with them.

There are several fire pits on the site. Firewood is available for purchase at the reception. Please note that things that protrude from the ground, like trees or bushes, are not firewood.

The shelters are perfect for a relaxed hangout and having dinner. They are also ideal if you’ve escaped from work and need to quickly set up your laptop.

The Common Room is open 24/7 and usually offers a cozy hangout. It’s the place to go if you’re someone who likes to socialize after 11:00 PM.
Things to remember about social areas:
– Everything you bring to the social areas should be taken back to your tent or recycled.
– Between 22:00 and 23:00, we lower our voices and turn off the music.
– Between 23:00 and 07:00, it’s quiet on the site as many wake up early.
– If you want to socialize after 23:00, head to the Common Room. It usually becomes fun.
– By following these guidelines, everyone staying on the site will have a great time.

We are creating the place where we ourselves would want to camp!
We feel that we have come a long way since we started fixing up tentsites. There is always something to improve, and we have o lot of plans.. but we are starting to feel reasonably satisfied. And of course, it makes us happy to hear that what we have built is appreciated.
So, what is our plan? Well, for us, the camping life is not just about relaxing and enjoying nature, but also about creating memories through togetherness and community.
That’s why you can enjoy several barbecue areas, perfect for gathering friends and family around the fire. If you prefer a more private setting, there is plenty of space in our shelters.
On the premises, there is also a common room where people can gather if they want to socialize after 23:00. It’s perfect since many have an early evening, especially younger adventurers.
Yes, that’s pretty much our thinking – we look forward to welcoming you and together ensuring that you have a fantastic adventure!
/ Jerry

The Community
It often happens that you start chatting with someone in the tent next to you, “So, what have you been up to today?” And there you go. Before you know it, you have a common acquaintance or have been to the same place.

Child-friendly
FriluftsByn is a place where adventurous families with children usually have a great time. It’s a relaxed place without a lot of fuss and with plenty of space for kids to enjoy.

Own time
After a day of adventures and excursions, it’s quite nice to have something to eat on the premises. However, during the low season, the opening hours might be more limited. You can find all the details here: Food & Drinks >>

The Hangout
Honestly, after a string of magnificent nature experiences, one can get a bit tired. That’s when it’s really nice to have plenty of space to just chill – swim, relax, barbecue, and enjoy a refreshing drink.

If you’re looking for easygoing yet magnificent adventures for the family, you’ll love FriluftsByn. From FriluftsByn, there are several hiking trails, you can go canoeing, there are buses to the National Park, and you can walk down to the boats to Ulvön. However, the most significant experience is often just hanging out together by a campfire.

FriluftsByn is perfect as a tent base if you want to take your friends on wonderful adventures – day hikes, kayaking for everyone, relaxing hangouts, and so on – but also want a comfortable base to come back to. You know, with hot water, some live music during “Burgers and Beer” events, and a chance to meet like-minded people.
FriluftsByn is a perfect hangout for adventurous families with children, groups of friends, and seniors. It usually creates a really cozy atmosphere.
Jerry, FriluftsByn

TENT IN THE HIGH COAST
10 reasons to tent in FriluftsByn
Since 2013, step by step, we have built a place where we ourselves love to spend time. As friends have recommended us to each other and the media has highlighted us as an authentic place, where we share what we personally do in our free time, more and more people have chosen to bring their tents and make FriluftsByn their base during their High Coast adventure.
Sometimes, it feels a bit nerve-wracking because we’re afraid that the expectations might become too high – after all, we’re just a group of friends with no previous experience in this.
