Camp in the middle of the World Heritage High Coast.
The High Coast is absolutely fantastic and if you want to experience its highlights and hidden gems, you will truly love the location of FriluftsByn – right in the middle of the World Heritage site. You can find us on the sunny south side of the mountain Skuleberget. From here, several hiking trails start, and you are also close to Skuleskogen National Park, boats to the island Ulvön, and it’s easy to take a trip to Nordingrå.
But it’s actually mainly for the wonderful atmosphere that we have so many regulars. The area invites you to those spontaneous walks – up to the forest, down to the water, around the lake, and into the courtyard. If you come with children, you’ll also notice how quickly they make new friends. It’s simply a very pleasant and relaxing activity in itself just to hang out in FriluftsByn.
This summer we are opening up Cafe Friluftsfiket, and we will also be organizing several cozy troubadour evenings. We believe you will enjoy it. Hope to see you there.

With FriluftsByn as your base, you not only live amidst the best experiences of the High Coast, there is also plenty of space for relaxation.

CAMPING IN THE HIGH COAST
10 reasons to camp in FriluftsByn
One could imagine that the absolute main reason why so many come back is one of the following – the sunny southern location, the generous pitches where you can naturally set up an awning, or that we have a perfect location amidst the highlights of the High Coast. However, when we ask, it’s the cozy atmosphere on the site and the fact that we can provide personal tips that make people return. It’s a bit like coming home to friends. Hearing that kind of thing certainly makes us happy. Of course, everything can be a bit faster during the high season – but we will always do our best to ensure that you enjoy your stay.

This thing about us running a campsite
– That’s not something we talk about.
Since 2013, step by step, we have built a place that we ourselves love to stay at. Neither of us probably thought that we would “run a campground,” but rather, we felt that it would be really fun to create a cozy place that people could make their base and return to between adventures and excursions. It’s also great to offer accommodation for those who want to stay a little longer during our troubadour evenings.
We have been quite diligent, and over the years, we have built a visitor center and two really modern service buildings. We constructed a restaurant we call “Vardagsrummet” and set up a courtyard where we organize troubadour evenings known as “Burgers & Beer.” We have just completed the construction of the cafe Friluftsfiket.
To be honest, it’s probably to some extent a campground we have built, but we prefer to say that we have created a really cozy place perfectly situated in the High Coast. It’s a place where you are welcome to stay with a camper or caravan and enjoy everything the area has to offer.
That’s exactly how it feels, and I hope that you will feel welcome and enjoy your time with us.
/ Jerry
WHO USUALLY CAMPS IN FRILUFTSBYN?
FriluftsByn is a truly cozy place and a big part of the atmosphere is thanks to you who visits us. Whether you are just about to head out on an excursion or have returned from an adventure, there is always something to talk about, and it’s this sense of community that you will experience when you are here. You will meet a mix of the following people:

Adventurous Families
If you’re going on a camping adventure with the family, you’ll appreciate that everything is so close, and there are plenty of things to discover on the site, such as free mini-golf, a playground, and a small swimming area.

Active Nature Lovers
FriluftsByn started as a place for active nature lovers – couples and friends – who wanted a base for their adventures in the High Coast. Expect to find quite a few self-built campervans and rooftop tents at the campground.

Curious Explorers
FriluftsByn attracts many active seniors who are true role models in enjoying life. They often stand out for their adventurous spirit, approached in a more harmonious way.

Adventure Groups
We have become a destination where many training and adventure groups come, and we have also become a stop for many Sweden tours, including Rosa Bussarna (The Pink Buses).

SERVICE BUILDINGS
There are two service buildings on the site. Our larger, newly renovated service building with 12 showers and four toilets is located right next to the camping pitches. We do our utmost to keep it clean and tidy both in the morning, during the day, and in the evening, but we are really glad that outdoor enthusiasts like you take responsibility to clean up after yourselves. It makes it more enjoyable for everyone.

There is plenty of space for washing dishes.
You need to bring your own dish brush and soap.

We like it to be nice clean – that’s why we clean often. But you also clean up after using the kitchen, right?

We have recently renovated the service buildings. Make sure to throw the paper in the trash bin and take good care of the place.

To accommodate even those who are not staying with us (hikers, etc.), we have coin-operated showers. You will need 10 SEK coins to use the showers, and we can provide change at the visitor center and restaurant.
Things to remember about the service buildings:
– Bring your own dish brush and dishwashing detergent.
– You need 10 SEK coins for the shower. (The reason is that we allow hikers, climbers, paddlers, and day-trippers to use our facilities.)
– Clean up after yourself when using shared areas such as sinks, dishwashing areas, and kitchen.
– Make sure to aim for the trash bin when throwing away paper or trash.
SOCIAL AREAS
There are several barbecue spots on the site, and both the courtyard and Friluftsfiket have covered outdoor areas. On Wednesdays and Saturdays during the high season, we organize “Burgers & Beer” events in the courtyard, which means that you cannot use the barbecue spots there during those times. If you feel like hanging out indoors, the Common Room next to the courtyard is open 24/7.

There are tables and seating areas scattered throughout the area. Feel free to sit down, and when you’re done, please remove your belongings – no reserving spots for yourself.

If someone needs a place to sit or seems sociable, please feel free to share your space with them.

There are several fire pits on the site. Firewood is available for purchase at the reception. Please note that things that protrude from the ground, like trees or bushes, are not firewood.

The shelters are perfect for a relaxed hangout and having dinner. They are also ideal if you’ve escaped from work and need to quickly set up your laptop.

The Common Room is open 24/7 and usually offers a cozy hangout. It’s the place to go if you’re someone who likes to socialize after 11:00 PM.
Things to remember about social areas:
– Everything you bring to the social areas should be taken back to your tent or recycled.
– Between 22:00 and 23:00, we lower our voices and turn off the music.
– Between 23:00 and 07:00, it’s quiet on the site as many wake up early.
– If you want to socialize after 23:00, head to the Common Room. It usually becomes fun.
– By following these guidelines, everyone staying on the site will have a great time.
